New York, NY (June 15, 2017) – Motor Home Specialist today announced that, after a month-long fundraising campaign, the family-owned business has donated $175,000 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF), a not-for-profit organization and national leader supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families. For every new RV sold during May of 2017, Motor Home Specialist donated $1,000 to the IFHF.
“We are extremely honored to once again make a donation on behalf of Motor Home Specialist and thank our loyal customers who helped make this possible,” said Donny O’Banion, CEO of Motor Home Specialist. “This is the 4th year we have had the privilege of donating to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. It is always a highlight and overwhelmingly positive experience for our family and our team. We are incredibly proud to do our part in supporting our nation’s service members.”
Motor Home Specialist ran similar fundraising campaigns for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund in previous years. Together with this year’s donation, Motor Home Specialist has raised $575,000 for the IFHF.
100% of Motor Home Specialist’s donation will go towards constructing an Intrepid Spirit center at Camp Pendleton, CA, a medical facility that will diagnose and treat Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and psychological health conditions in U.S. service members. The IFHF is engaged in a $100 million fundraising campaign to build nine Intrepid Spirit centers at military bases around the country. Currently, Intrepid Spirit centers are operational at Fort Belvoir, VA; Camp Lejeune, NC; Fort Campbell, KY; Fort Hood, TX; and Fort Bragg, NC; and two others are being constructed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA and Camp Pendleton, CA. Two additional centers still need to be built.
Each Intrepid Spirit center costs approximately $12.5 million to construct and equip with the latest in brain technology and treatment facilities and spans 25,000 square feet.
“We are only able to do the work that we do with the support of people like the O’Banion family and companies like Motor Home Specialist,” said David Winters, President of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. “Every cent of this donation will help us build an Intrepid Spirit center and ensure that our country’s heroes who suffer from TBI and psychological health conditions get the best care available. We are so grateful to Motor Home Specialist and their customers whose generosity will help our service members at Camp Pendleton on their road to recovery.”
The design and mission of the Intrepid Spirit centers are based on the original National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) which opened in 2010 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Operated by the Department of Defense, NICoE is the most advanced facility of its kind in the country, and is the center of the Armed Forces’ efforts in researching, diagnosing and treating TBI, psychological health conditions and related injuries sustained by military personnel.
“The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is the most veteran friendly organization in the country with almost all of the proceeds raised going to those who deserve our unyielding thanks and to the families of those fallen heroes who have paid the ultimate sacrifice,” said SFC Patrick O'Banion USArmy Infantry Ret. and part owner of Motor Home Specialist. “Our family business has always been a proud supporter of our service members and with this donation we hope to continue to express our gratitude for the brave men and women who wear the uniform of our country.”
About the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a national leader in supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families, has provided close to $200 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. In 2010 the Fund opened the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) to support the research, diagnosis, and treatment of military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions. In 2013 the Fund launched a new $100 million campaign to build nine “Intrepid Spirit” centers at major military bases around the country. These centers serve as satellites to the central NICoE facility and extend that care to more service members suffering TBI, PH conditions and related afflictions. Five centers are operational and two others are under construction.
